This moment is a profound reminder of the cost of speaking difficult truths in an increasingly narrow public space. Arundhati Roy’s 2010 speech wasn't an isolated critique, but a call for solidarity and a deeper historical consciousness, linking struggles from Kashmir to central India under the unifying idea of justice.

To now prosecute this under anti terror laws is not just an overreach, it signals a troubling effort to criminalize a certain way of seeing India itself. Defending the right to such critical, uncomfortable dialogue isn't about agreeing with every word, but about preserving the very possibility of honest reckoning and moral integrity in our democracy.

Our solidarity must be with the space for such conversations, for when that space shrinks, we all lose.
